The best part about the movie isn't the movie itself but rather its ability to spawn hundreds of theories using the mechanic of an unreliable narrator.
"If you are God, and the delusion becomes reality,
About what kind of the noids you get?
Is it the sensual world? The despotic society?
    The destructive sanctions?
    Or..."

It reminded me a lot of Rocky and Taxi Driver, some being pretty much shot for shot.

I also thought it wasn't that violent or controversial as people were making it out to be. War films and horror films are much more violent, but no one gets hysterical over those. Shit, even Fight Club or A Clockwork Orange was more violent, and A Clockwork Orange was up for an Oscar even with an X rating.

With regards to criticism of the alt right or something, which a friend of mine told me about, I thought it said more about the radical left. The clownswearing masks reminded me more of antifa wearing masks and inciting violence than anything on the alt right. After seeing it I kept thinking, did we watch the same film, or are liberal critics just using the movie to try and smear Trump supporters by using this movie to paint them as unhinged alienated gun nuts.

      More thoughts later.

I couldn't possibly agree with this more!! I never even read anything the critics said for a while, but as soon as I saw the movie I thought of Antifa and the radical left, and how their systems are basically encouraging this. Do these people even know what it's like to have to deal with State health care when you're ACTUALLY sick or mentally ill??? Unfortunately I do. And the movie portrayed it accurately. The state decides who needs therapy and who doesn't, and which doctors you will see. If it doesn't work too bad, you're cut off. The radical left created the type of society portrayed in the movie - the masses hating the rich while depending on just a few to pay for all their lazy asses, the "health care" system driving people to worse madness, and a bunch of other hypocrisy. But it was predictable to me, upon seeing the movie, that the left would blame the right and equate it to "Right wing problems." Whatever the left fucks up, there's always someone else to blame. Hence the constant Trump investigations which turn up blank.
