the deceit of 3s is much, much more subtle than most people realize. 95% of the time, it's done through omission or implying: relying on the tendency of people to make prima facie assumptions that divert them away from unwanted details. when pressed for their opinions (I've noticed that real 3s, as opposed to mistyped 6s, 2s and 1s, are generally reluctant to share their real opinions on most issues), they'll typically respond with something relatively vague and, more importantly, non-falsifiable enough to provide plausible deniability if anything becomes contentious.
the stereotype of 3 in most modern descriptions is really closer to an unhealthy 6, unhealthy 7w8 or unhealthy 8w7 half the time (think Donald Trump). real 3s don't tend to be dick-slinging wannabe 8s. they tend to (but not always) be wannabe 1s. like a model of whatever field they pursue, they tend to stress how much "integrity" they have and be good representatives of insert-progressive-company-values-here. many are consciously or unconsciously aware of their tendency to fit into molds, and will make a concerted effort to play up their "weirdness" in order to seem authentic, non-robotic and/or less threatening to people who are prone to become envious of the straight A over-achiever gestalt they tend to naturally give off.
in all fairness, some of this weirdness does tend to be authentic (if they have a 4 wing or a 5 fix, there is quite a bit to draw from), but that's precisely the point, the best deceit blends illusion and reality, so in most cases, 3s communicate on a spectrum from fake to authentic, and pulling from the latter side is a major means by which they appear inconspicuous in their image to others. however, to the astute observer, 3s exhibited a kind of guarded hollowness underneath what is usually a friendly and cordial exterior. a sense that you're never seeing the whole picture.
real 3s are good at avoiding looking ostentatious or conceited to most outside observers. they want credit and validation for their accomplishments, but they're skilled at "set ups", guiding the conversation so that YOU bring up the right topic and then they simply oblige by giving you the positive information about themselves.
