Balalaika's Lair: Thoughts, Rants, Tangents and Revelations

So I made a late new years resolution not to post on facebook...for an entire year (I'll still be on messenger). Put simply, I'm tired of being doxxed, tired of being spied on, tired of searching for people to debate when most people can't even handle entertaining an "uncomfortable" contrary opinion for 30 seconds.

I was reluctant to come to what seems like an intellectually arrogant conclusion, because I would like to think that there is hope in at least communicating with most people, but time and time again I am disappointing, and in an era where privacy has moved from a right, to a privilege to increasingly a suspicion, moving elsewhere for conversation is becoming imperative.

Alas, I still need somewhere to dump my 5 fixed, NiTe mental ramblings and insights, so you are welcome to join me in my journey towards the dark side.

I haven't read this one...what was good about it?

I was a big fan of Shatterpoint.

the question to answer with whether left vs right wing economics works better is not simply who owns what, but what kinds of behaviors said systems encourage. social systems are nothing but systems of reward certain types of behavior and punish others, so, even if you DO want a socialist or communist state where people own property and means of production collective, equality STILL won't work because people will think "if I'm going to get the same thing no matter what, what's the point?"

so I took a BDSM test, and apparently the concept of having slaves turns me on immensely. I'm honestly kind of embarrassed to admit this, but it's fucking hilarious, so I'll just roll with it.

as an aside, my scores for sadism and humiliation were both extremely low, so I guess I like to just...passively be the master

I should retake that. I had high scores for sadism and humiliation, but I forgot about the slave thing.

      a few random thoughts
      1) diversified investing is on an asset insofar that that diversity is non-correlated. if the market crashes and you're all-in within a highly correlated asset class (ex: you have all stocks), you're still likely to lose well over 15% of your net worth in a single day.
      2) half of "conservative values" are basically nepotism...and that's a good thing. build networks and support your own, fuck doing things the hard way. trust me, my typology profile is about as rugged, hyper-individualism as you can get, and trying to do everything on your own when you have advantages at your disposal is overrated
      3) on that note, if you don't have the privilege of coming from such a family already, make your own privilege by building friendships with people where you can help each other. you don't have to be a fake piece of shit to do this. basic social skills and mutual interests will get you a long way, especially as successful people tend to be kinda lonely.

The reason why gaslighting was ever effective in the first place is because there are of people who are histrionic, borderline or otherwise over-dramatic, and being anything other than dismissive of such behavior is enabling and rewards them with attention and validation. To be honest, when pretty much any female celebrity under 40 speaks, my initial gut reaction is "okay teenage girl, next..." On the other hand, when male celebrities speak, my gut reaction is "you didn't even say anything. you pretty much said a bunch of nothing in several words because you're afraid of women rejecting you or of offending people"

I think in close relationships gaslighting can work on almost anyone that isn't a sociopath, because narcissistic manipulators have a lot of tricks. I've read some books on things like this. It's a bit more complex than "the person was already mentally ill" though I do kind of agree that something got tthem into that situation. I mean, I ended up with a gaslighting narcissist during the lowest low low low point of my trauma, and I still got out of the relationship in 3 months and then read books to make sure it wouldn't happen again. But I have a great family supporting me, great friends etc. A good upbringing, for a better example. Some people think this is just the way it is.

I agree, but I may have miscommunicated something. the point wasn't so much blaming the victim in this case (although I am generally willing to do that if more evidence shows up) as much as that outside observers are more willing to believe that someone is just "crazy" or "being dramatic" because being a hyper-emotional, histrionic celebrity has become more normalized.

Yeah I agree, shut that shit down and quit enabling people. Shitty people are shitty because someone allowed them to be shitty instead of putting them in their place.

generally, what you are the most proud of has more to do with your super id (mobilizing and seeking) functions than your ego (base and creative) functions.

as an example: I'm not particularly proud of being an "intellectual". in fact, it took me several years to reluctantly admit that I had many of those characteristics? why? because I'd spend all day reading and debating people if I didn't have to work and didn't have other goals. I literally procrastinate by reading through college lecture series and economics texts, and by and large, I'd have a lot more money and power if I could just put those damn books down for a few years and actually do something.

          what am I proud of?
          1. getting myself to the gym
          2. managing to have a functional enough circadian rhythm to get to work on time
          3. actually putting my plans into action rather than just giving them to other people (so many sensors have taken my advice and gotten way more amazing results than I could have if I were to try it)

the problem with "objectification of women" is not that it's patriarchal. it's that it's not patriarchal enough. think about it...who tends to get objectified? disabled women? poor black women who work at cafeterias? nope, the primary brunt of it falls on upper middle class to rich, done up white women who do nothing all day but try to elicit attention from men so they can play victim and moral grandstand to their friends about it later.

do you know what women have to do in a real patriarchal society? actually work. I swear every time some sanctimonious celebrity wants to preach to me another series of walking contradictions, I want to say "you're worth less than a prostitute, because at least they actually work. you're lucky I don't have you trafficked and sold to the caliphate you useless bar wench". I wish nothing but the worst for these individuals, nothing but abuse as they cower in fear in the corner afraid to even open their mouth as they're ruled over with an iron fist.

....now then, let's talk about some women who do deserve real respect
            1) women who are productive
            2) women who raise strong children
            3) women who take actual responsibility for their actions and don't feel sorry for themselves
            4) women who use their brains
            5) women who take risks for the people they love

trust me, there are plenty of ways that women can earn my respect, but I wish all these histrionic celebrity thots a fate worse them death. I want them to live in perpetual pain and slavery so that anyone who looks upon them is afraid to open their mouth for a week. that's as much respect as they deserve, as much freedom as they deserve, as much satisfaction as they deserve.

It's okay to have social anxiety (well, it's pathetic, but so are a lot of things), it's not okay to flake on your friends regularly and inconvenience them because you don't have the guts to go out, spend time with friends or even talk on the fucking phone. It's true that friends are supposed to be patient with you as you try to work on your flaws, but playing the "I have social anxiety!" card every time you flake or screw up their plans is extremely negligent, victim-playing and disrespectful.

Yah if you're that anxious then don't make plans in the first place.

Capitalism vs socialism is so much more than the battle of rich vs poor, for socialists don't just hate the rich, but also the middle class. They hate those who want to build a life rather than dedicating that life to tearing down the system that would make such building possible. At it's core, it is creation vs destruction.

While efforts to alleviate poverty, mental illness, abuse and substance addiction are noble in their intentions...they are also boring. Personally, I think it's far more interesting to look at how to take someone from 0 to 100 than to take them from the negatives up to break even levels of functionality. not being victimized by life is only step one. the goal is take control of life, to dominate it, to bend it to your will so that you can get what you want out of it and experience real fulfillment.

So agree! I do think it's good for society to protect the vulnerable but I also think there should be more effort going toward helping the vulnerable build up strength. It seems like every effort is being made now to keep them weak and dependent.

The superbowl (really American football in general) is a pass time of the working class, but alas, I'm glad something is there to distract the lower classes enough to prevent revolt (esp, if they're also younger males with something to prove and higher testosterone). The longer revolt is prevented, the more time I have to make money.

I'm not so big on talking about -isms, privilege, etc, but I feel compelled to say to things
                  1) since talking to Animal , I've developed a habit of asking people about pre-existing conditions before recommending diet, exercise and/or lifestyle changes. For Te egos, compulsively writing prescriptions for people's problems and step by step plans is kinda what we do, but it's also incredibly condescending to prescribe such things to people who don't have the treatment options you do and have probably already poured over the research themselves
                  2) your disabled and chronically ill friends do not want you do feel sorry for them or feel guilty, but they do want you to take care of your health, because it's pretty fucking negligent to throw away something like that. the best way to check your privilege is to take advantage of it and make the most of it, not to squander it.

Totally agree. I don't want anyone's pity; I just hope my friends can be patient while I pull it together. Being patient means not holding me to healthy people's standards, but still holding me to personal standards, such as expecting that even if I err here and there, overall I am striving to the best of my ability. If they can't do that then it's basically incompatible mindsets because I am obviously someone who strives to do my best and holds myself to standards, and I won't be convinced otherwise. :P
